Researcher of all things social, behavioral, design, and user experience.
Hi, I’m Marie. I have 9 years of experience in research and UX, and I believe in research as a tool to find opportunities to solve real problems for people and organizations through human-centered, systems-aware products and services.
I’m passionate about research at the intersections of behavioral science, cognitive psychology, and personal and collective experience. I value ethical and inclusive research and delivering right-sized rigor no matter the resources at hand.
Currently, I lead UX research at Teladoc Health (formerly Livongo) for existing and new products and programs for our members managing chronic conditions, including people living with prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure. I work with my cross-functional stakeholders to identify high value UX research opportunities, then plan and deliver on projects and provide actionable insights across the entire design and product development lifecycle, including discovery and foundational, formative, and evaluative research.
In a former life, I led generative and evaluative user research in the global humanitarian sector, where I worked on tackling some of the most difficult problems we face as humans in some of the most challenging contexts in the world. I’m also a visual artist and all-around creative who brings equal parts reasoning and imagination to my work.
My unique background and experiences have helped me build a skillset in navigating personal, social, and cultural values. I meet people where they’re at and drive research that keeps people at the center while aligning to stakeholder priorities and business goals. I’m particularly interested in creating participatory experiences for participants and stakeholders that go beyond sharing to assimilating information and understanding. To this end, in addition to visual communication, I have explored storytelling, story facilitation, and creative writing.
I come from Midwest roots with stops along the way in Germany, Afghanistan, Ireland, and Iraq before finding my way to Oakland, where I’m currently based. I have a deep appreciation for (and slight obsession with) Afghan carpets, painting, textile and fiber arts, cookbooks and creating new baking recipes, Motown music, and Robyn.
